Sopra Steria helps its clients to take advantage of the latest technological innovations while protecting them from the risks of early adoption. The company invests continually in cultivating the right expertise and management tools to make this possible.
“Innovation is part of our DNA at Sopra Steria,” said Thomas Jouffroy, Lead DevOps Engineer at Sopra Steria. “We are always looking for ways to speed up and refine our development processes. At the same time, our clients rely on our services to be available 100% of the time. Downtime — or worse, data loss — is simply not an option.”
To automate software deployment, scaling, and management, Sopra Steria relies on a variety of Kubernetes distributions in clusters encompassing 300 nodes. It saw a chance to help its developers work more effectively.
“We want our developers to be able to move fast and test in Kubernetes without breaking anything!” said Jouffroy. “To do that, we realized that they needed to be able to replicate all components and resources and their associated configurations and data, and to roll back to previous releases if necessary. We targeted a solution that could support our continuous integration pipeline to help us maximize both quality and speed.”
Sopra Steria chose Kasten K10 to solve data mobility challenges for its Kubernetes environments, enabling faster, streamlined development processes.
Using Kasten K10, Sopra Steria can capture the entire application stack and use this data for software testing. By testing new code using production data, the company can more rapidly uncover and address issues, getting features to clients sooner.
“Kasten K10 auto-discovers applications, so we can be confident it’s capturing the full application-to-infrastructure view,” said Jouffroy. “For example, we use Kasten K10 to copy one client’s production environment every Sunday, anonymize any personal information, and hand it over to our developers to play with the data. As a result, we’ve dramatically accelerated how quickly we can innovate.”
Developers can now launch backups near instantaneously, whereas it used to take up to 15 minutes, removing limits on productivity. Since deploying Kasten K10, Sopra Steria has moved to two or more development cycles per day.
Sopra Steria also relies on Kasten K10 to power backup and recovery services for its clients. The solution is helping the company to provide cloud-native security at enterprise scale.
“Kasten K10 plays a key role in enabling us to deliver on our SLAs to clients,” said Jouffroy. “Specifically, it allows us to commit to RPOs of four hours and under for some clients. As a result, we keep client satisfaction high and avoid the financial and reputational damage we would incur in the event of violating SLAs. It also strengthens our cyber-resilience strategy by ensuring we can restore our clients’ business- critical data whenever it’s required.”
