Singapore LNG Corporation selected Veeam to enable a low-risk migration to the cloud and to protect its remaining on-premises applications.
“Our partner proposed Veeam for the cloud migration project,” said Chong Nai Min. “We recognized the Veeam name immediately, and it turned out to be a good decision. Veeam delivered the migration capabilities we were looking for alongside intuitive management for data protection.”
Singapore LNG Corporation used Veeam to migrate applications and databases hosted in 80 virtual machines to the cloud.
“Thanks to Veeam, moving our apps to the cloud was a smooth experience,” said Chong Nai Min. “Veeam actually helped us overcome issues we had with other technologies, avoiding additional delays to the project.”
Singapore LNG Corporation now uses Veeam to back up four on-premises applications with Veeam, totaling just under 10 TBs of data. The apps are used for terminal operations planning, workflow management, and engineering documentation.
“We carry out ad hoc testing of our ability to recover workloads with Veeam and have never encountered an issue,” said Chong Nai Min. “As a critical information infrastructure operator, our systems must be secure and available — and Veeam gives us confidence that we’re achieving that for this part of our IT environment.”
By saving the Singapore LNG Corporation IT team time on administering and checking backups, Veeam frees up valuable resources for other tasks. Singapore LNG Corporation plans to grow its Veeam footprint, using Veeam to support its new disaster recovery (DR) strategy.
“Members of the IT team tell me their favorite thing about Veeam is how easy it is to use,” said Chong Nai Min. “That ease of use is precisely what makes Veeam a good fit for our future DR plans. At present, we store our backups in an on-premise DR environment, but that site is being decommissioned. Hence, we want to use Veeam to recover these workloads to the cloud, representing the next step in our cloud-first strategy.”
