From its roots in manufacturing tableware, Corona has grown into a diversified and dynamic multinational conglomerate. The company has recently added the production of cement and concrete to its many lines of business.
“We keep adding new strings to our bow,” said Luisa Fernanda Stephens Zapata, Head of IT Operations at Corona. “Expanding our share of existing markets and entering new markets means our data is growing extremely fast. Our challenge was to protect this data while keeping IT operations efficient—a goal that wasn’t possible with our previous data protection solution.”
The legacy solution meant that the company’s IT teams found themselves weighed down by time-consuming administration, compatibility issues, slow recovery, and difficulty accessing support.
“Troubleshooting required too much time, frustrating our IT teams and affecting customer experiences,” said Luisa Fernanda Stephens Zapata. “Downtime and data loss would translate directly into lost sales and revenue, so we needed to make a change fast.”
Corona enabled enterprise resilience around-the-clock for its extensive business operations by adopting Veeam-as-a-service from Veeam partner TI724. In Veeam, the company found a solution that could protect data no matter where it is located.
“We decided it made sense to outsource management of data protection to our trusted partner TI724,” said Luisa Fernanda Stephens Zapata. “Veeam allows us to protect all our data, wherever and however it is stored, with zero lock‑in.”
Currently, Corona uses Veeam to back up 252 TB of data across 326 virtual machines, which are mainly hosted in Azure AVS, with a backup on Microsoft Azure Blob Storage, with the rest on physical servers on premises. Built-in monitoring and reporting features enable TI724 to solve issues before they affect services for Corona.
“With Veeam, our backups complete successfully almost every time,” said Luisa Fernanda Stephens Zapata. “On the rare occasion there is an issue, TI724 are alerted so they can address it proactively. They also have highly responsive Veeam support at their fingertips. Veeam releases updates with new features and enhancements regularly, so the service just gets better and better.”
Corona has reduced the time and cost of data protection significantly while enhancing its capabilities. As a result, the company has increased efficiency while reducing risk: a win-win scenario. Luisa Fernanda Stephens Zapata added: “Veeam is so much more powerful than our previous solution, but it also offers incredible control over data protection. The data deduplication and compression functions have significantly increased the efficiency of our storage utilization. TI724 has far more visibility into the status of our backups than we ever did previously, which gives us great peace of mind. They also offer more granular recovery, so we can quickly restore precisely the data we need.”
Moving to Veeam has cut data recovery times for Corona significantly, helping it maintain a high level of business continuity. Moreover, powerful new ransomware protection capabilities are driving down the risk of data loss even further.
“Compared to our previous solution, Veeam recovers data virtually instantly, which makes a massive difference,” said Luisa Fernanda Stephens Zapata. “This has allowed us to reduce downtime significantly, avoiding interruptions to our manufacturing and retail operations. We also feel a lot more confident about our cyber-resilience measures now we have Veeam immutable backups and backup verification features in place.”
Corona can now freely extend or reorganize its business without worrying about redesigning its data protection environment. The company has unlocked greater scalability and flexibility with Veeam, removing barriers to its expansion.
Luisa Fernanda Stephens Zapata concluded: “Wherever we choose to go next, we’re confident that Veeam will support us with the same exceptional level of data protection. The solution plays a critical role in our business continuity and disaster recovery strategy and has no problems keeping up with the fast pace of change at Corona.”
