For many customers and service providers, long-term retention of backups is a costly and time-consuming process. Using the AWS (Amazon Web Services) gateway to act as a VTL (Virtual Tape Library) with Veeam, however, allows users to save time and money by connecting their on-premises Veeam Backup & Replication archives to AWS, and then sending archival backups from Veeam Backup & Replication to AWS, including AWS S3 Glacier Deep Archive.

This guide highlights the features, setup and best practices for using Veeam with AWS Storage Gateway in VTL mode, including:
  • Planning and proper sizing of an AWS VTL gateway
  • Connecting AWS gateway appliances to Veeam
  • Configuring and ensuring optimal performance for AWS VTL Gateway
