Known Issues

Issue 1: Disabling "multi-protocol access" within Nutanix breaks NAS Backup

When Nutanix storage has been added to Veeam Backup & Replication using Nutanix Files System integration, if "multi-protocol access" is disabled within the Nutanix configuration, Veeam Backup & Replication will lose the ability to communicate with the Nutanix File Server, and the following error will be shown:

Failed to update Nutanix partner server []: Task  failed with Failed to update client configuration list: Failed to find export for 

 

Workaround

  1. Create the following registry value on the Veeam Backup Server:

    Key Location: 
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\
    Value Name: NutanixRecreatePartnerServerOnRescan
    Value Type: DWORD (32-Bit) Value
    Value Data: 1

    PowerShell cmdlet to create this registry value:
New-ItemProperty -Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\' -Name 'NutanixRecreatePartnerServerOnRescan' -Value "1" -PropertyType DWORD -Force
  1. Rescan the Nutanix Files Server
  2. Remove the Registry Value created in Step 1
Remove-ItemProperty -Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\' -Name 'NutanixRecreatePartnerServerOnRescan'

Issue 2: Storage Snapshot Removal Fails if SMB Share Is Processed in Less Than 10 Minutes

When interacting with an SMB-only Nutanix share, if a Veeam Backup & Replication task completes so quickly that it would cause a storage snapshot removal request to be sent less than 10 minutes after that storage snapshot was created, the storage snapshot removal may fail.
 

Workaround

Nutanix versions below 4.2 — create the following registry value on the Veeam Backup Server and configure it to a value sufficient to force Veeam Backup & Replication to retry enough times that it finally succeeds.

Key Location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication\
Value Name: NutanixDeleteSnapshotRetryCount 
Value Type: DWORD (32-Bit) Value
Default Value Data: 3
 

Nutanix 4.2 and higher — Veeam Backup & Replication will skip the deletion of the snapshots "stuck" in the Marked For Delete state. The workaround is to delete stuck snapshots manually within Nutanix Files.

Issue 3: Veeam Backup Server and Component Servers Must Use Server 2016+

Due to the TLS 1.2 cipher suites used by Nutanix, Nutanix Files Integration requires that the Veeam Backup Server, Backup Proxies, and Windows Repositories use Microsoft Server 2016 or higher.

Specifically, the following cipher suites, which were added in Server 2016 and Windows 10 1607:

  • TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384
  • TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_GCM_SHA256
