Azure Local is the new name for Azure Stack HCI
Azure Stack HCI is now considered part of Azure Local. Learn more about this rename in the Microsoft Documentation: Renaming Azure Stack HCI to Azure Local

Purpose

This article documents support for backup, restore, and replication of virtual machine workloads running on the initial Azure Stack HCI by Veeam Backup & Replication.

Initial support for Azure Stack HCI OS was provided starting in Veeam Backup & Replication v11.

Azure Stack HCI OS is a hyper-converged operating system delivered as a service with a dedicated release cycle deployed on-premises with ties to Azure for licensing.

Solution

The table below lists supported versions of Azure Stack HCI and the minimum Veeam Backup & Replication version required.

Note:

  • Replication from older versions to newer versions of Hyper-V is supported, and it is possible to replicate virtual machines from Hyper-V to Azure Stack HCI. When doing this, the virtual machine configuration version increases.
  • Replication requires the VM's configuration version to be compatible with the destination host. For this reason, it may not be possible to replicate from a newer version of Azure Stack HCI, or Hyper-V, to an older version.

Version

For example, an entry for 8.0 would also include 8.0a, 8.0b, and 8.0c.
Minimum Veeam Backup & Replication Version Required
The maximum version for this table is always the most recent version of Veeam Backup & Replication.
23H2 (version 25398.x)

12.1 (build 12.1.0.2131)
Excluding support for Azure Arc VM management.
Azure Arc VMs in a "Running" state can be backed up. Upon restore, these VMs become standard Hyper-V workloads. If a VM is restored (and the original is no longer present) within the period Azure Arc can reconnect (45 days), the Azure Arc connection should persist.

22H2 (version 25357.x)

12 P20230412 (build 12.0.0.1420 P20230412)

22H2 (version 20349.x) 11a (build 11.0.1.1261)
21H2 (version 20348.x) 11a (build 11.0.1.1261)
20H2 (version 17784.x) 11 (build 11.0.0.837)
