V11: The Veeam and NetApp Innovation Continues

Since 2014, Veeam and NetApp have worked closely together to support tight integration between the two organizations. NetApp’s concept of the data fabric ensures that a business’s data is always on, always available and easily consumed and ties nicely into Veeam’s always-on data availability message.

The most-recent release of Veeam Backup & Replication v11 among other Veeam technologies continues to accelerate and innovate with NetApp.

Let’s take a look at a few ways Veeam and NetApp work together when it comes to Veeam’s most-recent release.

Veeam Continuous Data Protection

Veeam CDP is all about eliminating downtime. It helps Veeam and NetApp customers achieve immediate recovery to a latest state or desired point in time and provides new capabilities for granular recovery and restoring individual VM workloads and applications with near-zero data loss across the entire data fabric.

Enhanced NAS backup capabilities

Veeam NAS backup capabilities have seen a number of enhancements in Veeam Backup & Replication v11, most notably, Instant Recovery for NAS. This technology enables uninterrupted user access to NAS data on a NetApp system by instantly publishing an entire file share directly from backup.

In addition, NAS backup has gotten blazingly fast with NetApp ONTAP integration. Not only does this increase the speed of NAS backup jobs, but it also ensures that backups won’t negatively impact your production environment. The power of automatic NAS backups from NetApp ONTAP snapshots is enabled out of the box and couldn’t be simpler to get started with.

Veeam’s blazingly fast Instant Recovery technology has also now come to file shares in the form of Instant File Share Recovery for SMB-based file shares. This provides uninterrupted user access to NAS data by instantly publishing an entire file share directly from backup. Don’t miss the details in the Veeam NAS backup post.

NetApp-powered Veeam backups have also become more flexible in v11 with new options for adding NetApp ONTAP objects to backup jobs. Backup jobs can now be created at the NetApp Cluster, SVM, volume or share level.

Orchestrate recovery from SnapMirror

In what was previously known as Veeam Availability Orchestrator v3, Veeam introduced support for NetApp ONTAP Snapshots, allowing NetApp customers to create, test and run fully validated disaster recovery plans in minutes. In Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator v4, support has been added for Veeam CDP. This builds on the powerful features of Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator’s dynamic documentation and detailed plan definition reports with a full audit log. Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator’s readiness check for CDP replica plans not only checks your RPO, but also ensures you are meeting your SLA. If not, Veeam Disaster Recovery Orchestrator will let you know, so you can take action and remain in compliance.

The partnership between Veeam and NetApp continues to expand as both organizations bring innovation to the IT industry. Veeam supports NetApp customers as they further enhance the management, protection and recoverability of their data from edge to core to cloud across the data fabric.
