Veeam Innovates Again for Kubernetes with More Integrations Between Veeam Backup & Replication and Kasten K10

In today’s digital age, Kubernetes has become an indispensable tool for managing and deploying complex software applications at scale. However, with its many moving parts, it’s essential that you have a solid backup strategy in place to protect your critical data and configurations in case of unexpected failures, human errors or cyber attacks. Without a reliable backup system and the ability to hit your desired recovery objectives, you risk losing valuable data and facing costly downtime, which can result in lost revenue, decreased productivity and brand damage. Therefore, implementing a robust backup strategy for your Kubernetes cluster is crucial for ensuring data resilience, business continuity and minimized potential risks.

To address this, Veeam has continued toward its core value of “innovate and iterate” with the release of Veeam Backup & Replication v12 which provides a comprehensive data management solution for customers who use both Veeam Backup & Replication for backup and recovery and Kasten K10 for application-centric data management. This includes disaster recovery (DR) in Kubernetes environments.

The Story So Far: Veeam Backup & Replication and K10 Integration

The first iteration of this integration was to enable Kasten Kubernetes backups to use Veeam backup repositories, which allowed you to export your backups that were created by K10 policies. After K10 exports the backups to Veeam backup repositories, the backups will become available in Veeam Backup & Replication’s console where you can easily perform both common and advanced data protection and data recovery operations.

This is great for customers who have invested in on-premises storage for their Veeam backup repositories and would like to keep their physical, virtual, NAS and cloud-native backups all in one place.

Next Level: V12

With the release of Veeam Backup & Replication v12, we have continued our integration path with Kasten K10. Thanks to valued customer feedback, Veeam was able to deliver central management and the ability to centrally control Kasten Kubernetes backups alongside your existing infrastructure and platforms.

This functionality will provide you with the ability to not only add your Kasten K10 deployments into one central location, but you’llalso have visibility into your K10 policies, the ability to change and edit these policies and restore your data.

This was something we were able to proudly demonstrate live and on-stage at VeeamON with a very simple two-minute demo of how easy it is to add your K10 deployment and run it through some of your administrative tasks.

Instant Recovery for Kubernetes Backups

Another key capability that made it into this release is the ability to perform Instant FCD Recovery. In the first integration we were able to offer the ability to perform first-class disk recovery within VMware Tanzu environments — instantly!

Veeam is renowned for its Instant Recovery and  next-generation Instant Recovery engine. With Kubernetes being such an indispensable tool for managing and deploying complex software applications at scale, how can these solutions benefit one another? With Kubernetes and its many moving parts, it’s essential that you have a solid backup strategy in place to protect your critical data and configurations in case of unexpected failure, human error or cyber attacks. Without a reliable backup system, companies risk losing their valuable data and facing costly downtime, which can result in lost revenue, decreased productivity and reputational damage. Therefore, implementing a robust backup strategy for your Kubernetes cluster is crucial for ensuring data resilience and business continuity.

V12 means you’re now able to perform instantaneous first-class disk recovery for your Kubernetes applications and data back into your vSphere Tanzu environment and clusters. Much like the image-based backups we have seen through the years in Instant Recovery, it doesn’t matter if the size of your backup is 40GB or 400GB— we are going to get that data back quickly so you can meet your desired recovery objectives.

For those also aware of Instant VM Recovery and how the basis of this technology has formed a lot of the innovation for Veeam DataLabs, part of Veeam Backup & Replication is the ability to spin up a network-isolated sandbox environment to instantly leverage that data. For example, this functionality can be used to spin up clones of your Kubernetes applications and data alongside your production workload or into a specific cluster. This lets you clone a copy of your production application and take advantage of data services that enable developers or other teams to gain insight into their data without affecting the production dataset.

As we continue to see the rapid adoption of Kubernetes and the data responsibility moving to  datacenter teams, these integrations will provide you with the ability to centrally manage your workloads regardless of platform. You also now have the ability to instantly recover, which gives you the agility you need to move even further forward without any of the complexity that’s typically associated with this process.

Kubernetes is just another platform that needs protecting. At Veeam, we are ready to help you integrate your internal teams and systems for peak performance!
