Recovery Anywhere and Clean Restores

Interestingly, most organizations plan to recover after a cyberattack using a hybrid approach that includes both on-prem data centers and cloud options. The data revealed that 71% recover servers to the cloud and another 81% recover directly to the data center. These trends vary somewhat by region with a more detailed view shown in the 2023 Ransomware Trends Report that was released by Veeam in May 2023. Covered in this report are topics on recovery anywhere and clean restores including:

Over two out of five respondents were assured their backups were clean before restoring. That means that the remaining organizations, or 56%, risk reinfecting the rest of their data during restoration. Of those organizations at risk, the 2023 Data Protection Trends Report confirmed that 35% restored directly to production followed by scanning as verification. More details are shown in this report from Veeam that was contracted with a global research firm to survey organizations of all sizes across 14 countries around the world.

The 2023 Ransomware Trends Report provides insights into:

The first look at the Ransomware Trends 2023 data was presented at VeeamON 2023, the Community Event for Data Recovery Experts in May 2023.  Over the next several weeks, we’ll be looking at the topics below, unpacking the research results, and discussing how these findings are affecting cyber resiliency strategies for 2023 and beyond.
