Empowering ProPartners with Data Freedom

Data freedom for customers means data freedom for Veeam Partners. But what does that really mean? It means together we can give customers the freedom to maintain operational agility and security, while safeguarding critical data against evolving cyber threats and unexpected industry changes.

An almost incomprehensible amount of data is created every day, and each year, figures are growing at an ever-increasing rate. According to the latest estimates approximately 402.74 million terabytes of data are created each day, around 147 zettabytes of data will be generated in 2024, and 181 zettabytes of data will be generated in 2025. This means the 120 zettabytes generated in 2023 are expected to increase by over 150% in 2025. It is estimated that 90% of the world’s data was generated in the last two years alone.

Suffice to say there’s a lot of data in the world, and it’s growing exponentially. Data is the lifeblood of every organization, and its ability to deliver insights, drive innovation, and transform companies is considered priceless.

But what if we need to move that data? Modernize systems that use the data? Or, what if we need to restore that data? What happens to it, and how is it managed? Data migration — also known as data conversion — is moving data from one system to another, and the level of complexity as well as the cost can vary enormously between suppliers. Data migration is technical and requires a combination of specialist skills. Think of it like taking the pieces from a massive, complex jigsaw puzzle and moving them to a different place. Those pieces will then need to be reassembled but still form that same, clear picture.

Many vendors are increasing their own complexity and locking in organizations to their own platforms, while increasing the costs to do so. In theory, any organization should be free to move its data wherever it resides but this growing IT complexity, which is at an all-time high, makes moving data difficult and therefore many vendors are therefore locking organizations into their proprietary platforms.  Veeam thinks it should be free for an organization to move data regardless of where the data resides.

Achieve Data Freedom and Flexibility

Organizations just want their data to be accessible, operational, and to keep up with current trends so they can respond to the latest technologies of evolving multi-cloud ambitions. Especially when adopting a hybrid cloud strategy, businesses need to ensure their data is agile. If they’re locked into one or two vendors, they could miss out on innovative technologies that other clouds release in the future.

Veeam is always looking at how to share the best practices of data protection to all different kinds of workloads, whether it’s cloud, virtual, physical, unstructured data, or even containers. Organizations must ensure they have the data mobility and flexibility to move their data easily and without the fees that continue to add up quickly as data is transferred, all while ensuring data protection, security, and control.

As a Veeam Partner, this is where you really add value to your customers, by extending these best practices and ensuring customers have the freedom and flexibility to do what they want, when they want with their data, all while keeping it secure, resilient, accessible, and operational at all times.

Veeam has powerful integrations with industry-leading storage partners and are committed to ensuring customers can choose exactly the storage strategy that works for them. We are also always innovating, adding solutions like Veeam Data Cloud to provide turnkey backup services, and will continue to iterate on that platform in the years ahead.

In regard to your customer’s data, whether it’s storage, migration, or conversion, restoring from an outage or attack, modernizing applications and infrastructure, or just instilling resiliency, Veeam Partners ensure their customers can recover from anywhere to everywhere.

Now that’s data freedom!

Veeam’s portable data format delivers complete data freedom that no other vendor can deliver with four core capabilities.

  1. Broadest storage support possible, avoiding vendor lock in
  2. Tools and capabilities to help migrate and modernize applications and infrastructure
  3. Capabilities to help recover from anywhere to everywhere
  4. Ensuring modern protection is available through extensive support for modern workloads

Have a look at how hypervisor portability works, by watching the video below:

When it comes to defining data freedom, think of it as a destination that our mutual customers are trying to achieve. You may know what a Star Trek Transporter is – the technology that allows for teleportation from anywhere to everywhere, by converting a person or object into an energy pattern (a process called “dematerialization”), then sending (“beaming”) it to a target location, where it is reconverted into matter again (“rematerialization”).  Now, think about the disastrous consequences of what might happen if it is rematerialized in an order that did not make sense, and now is no longer the original form that you wanted and needed. Now, think of this as your customers’ data!

As a Veeam Partner, you can ensure that your customer’s data always “materializes and rematerializes” in the correct way, is always accessible, protected, and resilient from the unexpected. General misalignment to the organizational goals, be it vendor lock-in, IT complexity, platform choices, timeframes, cost, application, hypervisor, and more are what create barriers to achieving the organizational goals. Veeam Partners can remove any barriers and ensure that along their customers’ journey, the things that together we are doing to help our mutual customers reach their goals, to migrate and modernize especially to the cloud and ensure that their data is mobile so they can move it where and when they want to, is attainable. Veeam understands the complexity of migrating and modernizing, whether it be hypervisor to hypervisor, hypervisor to cloud or even standardizing on hardware or hyper converged infrastructure. As a Veeam Partner, you are enabled to ease the path for your customers because data freedom for customers means data freedom for you. You and your customers can evolve without limits.

Veeam Helps Customers Evolve Without Limits

As organizations embrace new technology and evolve their business, it is critical they can choose the business platforms and applications optimized for their particular needs. This is at the core of data freedom.

Veeam enables organizations to protect, move, and recover their data from and to the platforms they prefer and is committed to extending support for new platforms giving customers freedom of choice. Veeam is constantly extending the breadth of Veeam Data Platform, which provides data security, data recovery, and data freedom to backup and use data from anywhere without platform or cloud lock-in, including support for Proxmox VE hypervisor. Veeam currently supports VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager, and Red Hat Virtualization, as well as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

The opportunities for Veeam Partners are endless. Just look at the choice of vendors, workloads, platforms, applications, and systems to choose from — imagine all the customers you can help!

Data Freedom is a Journey, and a Destination

A very simplistic way to think about data freedom is like this:

Your customer is going on a journey, and one of the first things you’re going to do is choose a preferred GPS app and input the relevant information — this is where the customer is now and this is where the customer is going. You will help your customer choose how to get there, and the mode of transport: driving or flying; boat or train; walking or cycling?

Although you carefully plan the route on the GPS you still understand there’s complexity along the way. Maybe there’s traffic or road works ahead, delays on the airlines, or rough seas. There may be multiple paths that you can take.

Your customers are constantly faced with choices and multiple paths. Shifts in market conditions make your customers react, and maybe they need more hypervisor flexibility, as an example. Do they switch a hypervisor, stay with their current hypervisor, go hyper converged or is it time to finally migrate and modernize to the cloud?

As we look at the paths our mutual customers could potentially take, we will work together to help take them forward and overcome their obstacles. We help our customers along their journeys to migrate and modernize, while ensuring that their data remains mobile to go where and when they want it to, to help them accelerate and propel their business forward.

Along this journey, there’s always a route to take for a hardware play, but you can guide your Customer and reassure them that with Veeam, there’s no lock-in that might limit them in the future — you keep the path clear and the future looking bright because if there is any constant, it is change, and your customer will be able to adapt quickly.

Because of Veeam’s flexibility, our ability to migrate, modernize and achieve a completely portable data format providing that mobility your customers need, they can accelerate their business to reach new heights. This is data freedom — it’s a journey and a destination.

And together, we can guide our mutual customers down the path that always moves them forward.

Veeam helps you navigate the journey, while you help our joint customer choose the right path.
