Veeam is proud to release the findings of yet another research project, the 2023 Data Protection Trends Report, which is the industry’s largest independent research on backup and data protection. This research is fully independent, representing the whole market, and not only Veeam customers, and was conducted by a third-party research organization, with no one knowing that Veeam was involved.
For 2023, when an organization was asked about the most common and most important attribute that connotes enterprise backup, the response was the same, which was the backup solution’s ability to support “modern” cloud-hosted workloads, such as IaaS or SaaS. Below we see the full list, with the responses sorted by the most important attributes.
The data indicates that:
- Priority #1 is protecting IaaS and SaaS, as well as the data center.
- Priority #2 is reliability; the enterprise backup solution must correctly work every time.
- Interestingly, past definitions of “enterprise” for backup used to be the ability to scale to handle many servers or a large amount of data, or to protect Unix server, but today these are much less of a consideration compared to the top priorities above.
