Sophos and Veeam Partner to Vigilantly Defend Against Evolving Cyber Threats

You may have heard us say it’s no longer a question of “if” but “when” your organization will be impacted by a cyberattack. As threats like ransomware become an inevitable challenge, safeguarding your organization’s backup data becomes paramount. The unfortunate reality is that backups can often be the prime target in ransomware attacks. In fact, based on interviews with 1,200+ IT leaders who suffered a ransomware attack, threat actors were able to affect backup repositories 75% of the time.1

With this in mind, how do you build a comprehensive cyber resiliency strategy to proactively defend your business-critical data — including your backups — from cyberattacks?

Detect, Respond, and Recover with Sophos and Veeam

Sophos and Veeam are joining forces to provide an end-to-end solution that not only detects cyberthreats, but ensures rapid recovery, bolstering your cyber resiliency strategy. Together, Sophos and Veeam vigilantly detect cybersecurity threats, determine the warranted response, and quickly recover impacted data so your backups stay safe and secure. This is a first-of-its-kind partnership for Veeam as we continue to innovate to provide customers with radical resilience.

Sophos and Veeam technologies integrate to exchange critical information when a security threat arises. The Veeam Data Platform monitors your environment to detect potential threats against your backups both internally and externally. Should a threat be identified, Veeam sends an alert to Sophos Managed Detection and Response (MDR) — a 24/7 service delivered by experts who detect, investigate, and respond to cyberattacks targeting your computers, servers, networks, cloud workloads, email accounts, and more. From there, the Sophos MDR team can respond and determine the best way to protect your backups from the threat: Sophos MDR can help roll back to the last known backup, or, in the case of attempted backup deletion, determine if an attack is occurring and take actions to disrupt, contain and fully eliminate the attacker.

Configuring the Sophos and Veeam Solution

New security enhancements in Veeam Backup & Replication include the ability to send log data from your Veeam environment to external providers that support syslog ingestion. Sophos leverages these new enhancements with a brand-new integration for Veeam in the Sophos MDR platform. Veeam logs are collected by a Sophos data collector appliance and securely forwarded to Sophos MDR where they are processed and inspected for security events. When security events are detected from the logs, such as a malware activity alert, Sophos MDR can automatically take action and raise alarms.

The integration requires Veeam Backup & Replication v12.1 (or higher) as well as Sophos MDR. Beginning later this year, Sophos customers will be able to install and configure the integration in a few short steps inside Sophos Central.
